How Chicken Mews uses your personal data when you order from this website.
Who is responsible
CHICKEN MEWS LTD (company number 16131302, registered in England and Wales) decides how and why your data is used for your order. Registered office: 520 Filton Avenue, Horfield, Bristol, United Kingdom, BS7 0QE. Phone: 0117 969 7999. Email: chickenmewsfilton@gmail.com.
Our ordering system is provided by AUROD (aurod.co.uk), which handles order data for us and only on our instructions.
What we collect, and why
- Your name and mobile number. To identify your order, to hand it to you, and to call you if there is a problem with it. Lawful basis: performing your order (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(b)).
- Your order. The items, any note you add, the total, the collection time, whether you pay online or at the counter, and when each step happened. To prepare and collect your order and to deal with any query or refund. Lawful basis: performing your order. We also keep a record of sales to meet our legal accounting duties (Article 6(1)(c)).
- Payment details. Online card payments are taken by our payment provider on its own secure page. We never see your card number. We keep only the payment status, the amount and the provider's reference for the payment. Lawful basis: performing your order and keeping accounting records.
- Order updates on your device (optional). If you press “Get order updates” and allow notifications, your browser gives us an address for sending notifications to your device. We use it only to tell you about that order. Lawful basis: your consent (Article 6(1)(a)). You can say no, and you can withdraw consent at any time in your browser settings.
- Technical data. Our hosting provider records standard connection data (such as IP address and browser type) when you visit the site, to keep it working and secure. Lawful basis: our legitimate interest in running a secure service (Article 6(1)(f)).
We do not ask for your email address, we do not create an account for you, and we do not use your details for marketing. We do not use analytics or advertising tools on this website. We do not make decisions about you by automated means.
Who receives your data
- The restaurant team, so they can prepare and hand over your order.
- AUROD, which provides the ordering system.
- Our hosting and database providers, who store the data for the system (our database is hosted in London).
- Our card payment provider, for online payments.
- If you turn on order updates, the push notification service run by your browser's maker (for example Google, Apple or Mozilla).
Some of these providers may process data outside the UK. Where they do, it is under safeguards the UK allows.
How long we keep it
Some things have fixed limits:
- Order tracking cookie: at most 48 hours.
- Order update notification address: removed when it expires, at most 48 hours after you turn it on and sooner once your order is finished.
- Saved orders on your device, only if you choose to save them: up to 60 days, and only on your device.
For order records (your name, number and what you ordered) we do not yet have a fixed deletion period. We keep them only as long as we need to run your order, deal with any query or refund, and meet our legal accounting duties. When we no longer need your name and number we will delete or anonymise them. If you want yours removed sooner, ask us.
Cookies and storage on your device
This website does not use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies. It stores the following on your device:
| What | Why | How long |
|---|---|---|
| Basket (browser storage) | Keeps your basket while you order. Needed for the site to work. | Until you order or clear it |
| Order tracking cookie | Brings you back to your order page after you order. Needed to show you your order. | Up to 48 hours |
| Page position and short notices (session storage) | Returns you to where you were on the menu. | Until you close the tab |
| Saved orders (browser storage), only if you choose it | After you order, you can choose to save it on this device for faster ordering next time. Nothing is saved unless you do. It lets you order again. Holds each order's tracking code, number, time, total and status. Not your name, number or items. | Up to 60 days, or until you turn it off |
| Notification permission (browser) | Only if you choose “Get order updates”. | Until you withdraw it in your browser |
Saving your orders on this device is off. Nothing is saved unless you choose it after an order.
You can delete all of this at any time in your browser settings (clear site data). The site still works afterwards; your basket and recent orders will simply be empty.
